TEC Awarded “Best Practices” Contract for Occupational Health Pilot Project
Wednesday, May 23, 2007

The State of Washington Department of Labor and Industries has awarded The Everett Clinic a one and a half year contract to evaluate measures considered to be best practices in the care of injured workers.

The goal of this project is to reinforce occupational medicine best practices amongst all providers that might care for an injured worker and provide better communication between the involved parties, in particular, the provider’s office and employer.

The project will be implemented in several phases including, the hiring of a Health Services Coordinator who will contact all state L&I system employers within one business day of care when their employee is seen for a work-related injury. The coordinator will also notify the employer if any work activity modifications are necessary for the patient and will follow an injured worker for the first 90 days following the filing of a claim at any of the 16 Everett Clinic locations.  The Health Services Coordinator will work in conjunction with the local Early Return to Work project team from L&I to coordinate rather than duplicate services.

This project is anticipated to provide coordination of efforts early, when an injured worker needs it most and promote better connectivity with their employer. The contract will support education for over 260 providers and fund this new clinic position to coordinate services and communication between the clinic’s medical provider, employer, L&I and other stakeholder groups.

The Everett Clinic has 8 urgent care Walk-In Clinics located throughout Snohomish County to treat work-related illnesses and injuries. The Walk-In Clinics are open seven days a week and evenings – no appointment necessary and located in Everett, Harbour Pointe, Lake Stevens, Marysville, Mill Creek, Silver Lake, Snohomish and Stanwood. Walk-In Clinics are open weekdays 8 am to 8 pm and weekends 9 am to 3 pm.
