Beginning in late 2010, doctors at The Everett Clinic began volunteering their time and services to provide care to low-income, uninsured patients through a new organization, the Snohomish County Alliance for Health Access.
Several area medical groups, including The Everett Clinic, raised $100,000 to launch the healthcare access project. The project is based on a similar program in King County, called Project Access.
More than basic medical services, the project will assist low-income and uninsured patients who need specialty care from a physician such as an orthopedist. Uninsured patients often struggle to find and access the specialty care they need.
Patients are referred to participating Everett Clinic specialists by physicians. They receive a packet before their appointment with directions on how to find the clinic and other information. Interpreters will be provided to patients who are not fluent in English.
