Leah Hastings, DO, a pediatrician with The Everett Clinic discusses constipation in babies. Constipation is not about frequency of pooping. Constipation is about the texture or consistency of the poop. Most of the time it is easy to treat - sometimes it is a simple dietary change like avoiding diary or adding fiber. There are OTC medications that can help with constipation called stool softeners (which are different than laxatives and you cannot become dependent on them) which add fiber in a concentrated form. They come in powder form, gummies and chewable and can be administered at home.
