Minimally Invasive Surgery

Minimally invasive surgery (also know as laparoscopic) procedures are performed through tiny incisions, instead of one large opening, which allows for quicker recovery. Minimally invasive surgery is an advanced technique that enables patients to experience faster recoveries and less scarring than what is entailed during traditional invasive procedures.

During a minimally invasive procedure, surgeons make several small incisions in the skin. A long, thin tube with a miniature camera at the end (called an laparoscope) is passed through one of the incisions. Images from the laparoscope are projected onto operating room monitors to give your surgeon a clear view of the surgical area. Special instruments are passed through the other incisions to allow the surgeon to explore, remove or repair what is wrong. Many types of surgeries are offered as a minimally invasive option including women’s health, breast care and general surgery.

Benefits of minimally invasive surgery:
  • A faster recovery for the patient
  • Less pain
  • Resuming normal activity faster
  • Shorter hospital stays
  • Lower total cost of care to both the patient and insurance plan
