Who is affected by macular degeneration
The number of people who have
age-related macular degeneration (AMD) increases with
age. 1
- Less than 10%
of people aged 43 to 54 have AMD.
- After age
75, up to 46% of people may have some form of it.
AMD occurs slightly more often in women than in men. People
with light skin are more likely to develop macular degeneration than others.
The condition is rare in blacks.
