Swelling that does not go away

Body fluid can collect in different tissue spaces of the body (localized) or can affect the whole body (generalized). Most swelling that is in one area (localized) will go away when the cause is treated, such as an insect sting. Home treatment may be all that is needed to relieve mild symptoms.

There are many causes of generalized swelling that may mean a more serious problem is present if the swelling does not go away on its own. Causes may include:
