What is the best way to clean my glasses?
Use only special lens cleaner or mild soap and water to clean your glasses. Do not use window cleaner. Window cleaners contain chemicals that will break down the coatings on your lenses
Is it OK to use Kleenex to clean my glasses?
Yes. Although Kleenex can leave lint on your lenses. It is recommended that you first rinse your glasses under water and then wipe them with a clean cotton cloth or special wipes we have available for glasses.
My lenses are scratched. Can you remove scratches?
It is not possible to remove scratches off your lenses. The best thing to do is to replace the lenses. Using your glass case and approved cleaning methods are the best way to guard against scratches. You can also purchase special coatings for your lenses to reduce scratching.
Can I use super glue or another glue to repair my glasses?
Any type of glue can damage your frames and lenses. Our trained opticiains can repair your glasses.
Will my transition lenses change color in a car?
Transition lenses do not darken in a car. The windshield filters out most of the ultraviolet light. UV light is what causes the transition lenses to darken.
Should I select the darkest lens possible to get maximum protection from the suns ultraviolet rays?
The color of the lens does not indicate the amount of protection. Some glasses with dark lenses may provide only partial UV protection, while a clear lens can have 100% UV protection. We recommend that all glasses, not just sunglasses have 100% UV protection. We can apply 100% UV protection to any lens.
The screws in my glasses are loose. How can I tighten them?
Bring your eyeglasses in and we will tighten the screws using a special locktite to insure they are secure. This service is complimentary and no appointment is necessary. If you always take your glasses off with one hand on one side, it may loosen the screws on that side. It’s best to use both hands when taking off your glasses.
My nose pads and frames turn green. How can I clean them?
We recommend that you clean your glasses daily with warm tap water and mild soap. This will help remove the skin oils that accumulate on your glasses. The green color comes from a reaction between your skin oil and the frame metal. Some frames like titanium or stainless steel are less likely to turn green. Ask our opticians about frames that will be less likely to turn green.
I purchased my glasses elsewhere. I want to keep my frames. Can I purchase lenses from your store?
Yes, as long as the frame is in good condition we can add new lenses.
What is a polarized lens?
While ordinary tinted lenses reduce brightness, only polarized lenses eliminate glare. Polarization is achieved by placing a thin sheet of polarized film between two layers of material. As light passes through a polarized lens, the polarized film channels the light rays to travel in the same direction; thus eliminating unsightly glare, much the same as venetian blind channels light.
Why should I purchase glasses at your center? I can get inexpensive reading glasses at the drugstore.
Drugstore reading glasses may work for some people; however, it is important for everyone to visit their eye doctor for a complete eye exam. An eye exam is necessary to screen for eye diseases and to determine if prescription lenses are necessary. Some eye diseases are more easily treated when caught in the early stages.
