An editorial in The Herald about the 2015 Washington state legislative session and possible cuts in state funding for health care programs, including Medicaid, includes a quote from Everett Clinic CEO Rick Cooper.
“If the funding level drops, those programs lose access to federal (matching) dollars,” he said.
The editorial continues: "Beyond that, the cuts can have even greater ill effects resulting from lost efficiencies and, if preventive care is limited, increased costs and poor patient health."
The editorial, which focuses on the legislative priorities of the Washington Healthcare Forum, an organization representing hosptials, doctors, and insurance providers, also addresses how the state will meet the need to educate and train more primary care physicians, nurse practitioners and physician's assistants.
