The LenSx femtosecond laser can treat low levels of astigmatism at the same time as cataract removal by creating precise cornea-relaxing incisions. This may provide better refractive outcomes compared with traditional cataract surgery.
Higher degrees of astigmatism can be corrected using a toric lens implant. The LenSx laser does not eliminate the need for glasses to see well up close. For some patients, a multifocal lens implant may be used to decrease the need for reading glasses.
