Each year, The Everett Clinic honors a staff member or physician with the James G. Finley, MD, Award for outstanding community involvement and customer service. This year, the award went to Mohs surgeon Dr. Gail de Imus. The award includes $1,000 for the charity of her choice. It will go to the Red Cross for the survivors of Typhoon Haiyan.
Dr. de Imus was noted for: organizing a free skin cancer screening event for Melanoma Awareness Month in May, speaking about skin cancer awareness in the community, supporting autism organizations, giving aid to an orphanage in the Philippines, and going above and beyond for patients.
Dr. de Imus is a board certified Dermatologist who joined The Everett Clinic in 2003 and established the Clinic’s Mohs micrographic surgery department for skin cancer treatment. She has treated more than 10,000 Snohomish, Island and King County residents for skin cancer.
Dr. de Imus earned her medical degree at the University of the Philippines College of Medicine and began her residency training in Otolaryngology/ Head and Neck Surgery at Philippine General Hospital before moving to the United States in 1995. She did two years of residency training in Internal Medicine at the University of Connecticut, completed her residency in Dermatology at Roger Williams Medical Center/Boston University and then went on to specialize in skin cancer treatment by completing a two-year American College of MOHS micrographic surgery and cutaneous oncology fellowship at the University of Iowa. She also trained in laser surgery, cosmetic dermatology specializing in soft tissue fillers.
The James G. Finley, MD, Award is named for the physician who retired from The Everett Clinic in 2000. He inspired others through his dedicated pursuit of excellence in patient care and community service. Past recipients of the award have included: physician assistant Chris Gustafson of Stanwood Clinic Family Medicine, medical assistant Oksana Tereshchuk of Harbour Pointe Pediatrics, nurse Patrick Shoe of Stanwood Walk-In Clinic, Mohs technician Kira Wood and Dr. Loren Ihle of Snohomish Clinic Family Medicine.
