If you’re planning to have a baby, you may be worried about illnesses that your child might inherit or get from a parent before a child is born.

Genetic screening is a way to learn more about inherited diseases before you’re pregnant. Genetic screening may also be done at your first prenatal visit and later in your pregnancy.

We can find out if you're pregnant by testing your urine or blood. These tests look for a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). It’s produced by the placenta. It’s found in your blood or urine when you are pregnant.

We offer obstetric services at our Everett and Mill Creek locations. 

Our department includes obstetricians (doctors), nurse practitioners, nurses, medical assistants and receptionists. We all work together to offer you the highest standard of prenatal care.

The doctor you select will be in charge of your care. For some of your appointments you may see a nurse practitioner or another doctor.

Your first OB visit will be with a medical assistant. They will take time to learn about your medical history and order lab tests. Your next visit will be with your chosen OB doctor or nurse practitioner.

Our doctors share an on-call schedule for deliveries and emergencies. This means that while you will mostly see one doctor for your appointments, another doctor may deliver your baby.

Low-risk pregnancy usually means that mom and baby need little to no medical care. Usually with low-risk pregnancy, labor and delivery go smoothly.

For low-risk pregnancies, OB care is offered at our Lake Stevens and Marysville locations with a family medicine provider.

If you see one of our family medicine providers during or after your pregnancy, you can see the same provider for ongoing family medical needs.

Prenatal visits are important. They help us make sure you’re healthy and everything is fine during your pregnancy.

During these visits we’ll check your weight and blood pressure. We’ll also check your baby’s growth and listen to your baby’s heartbeat.

If needed, we’ll order lab tests. Toward the end of your pregnancy, we’ll also check your cervix (lower part of uterus or womb) to see if you are dilated.

You’ll have routine obstetric visits every four weeks until you reach 28 weeks. Then we’ll see you every two weeks until you reach 36 weeks.

At 36 weeks, we want to see you each week until you deliver. Be sure to write down any questions that come up between visits. Bring them with you to your next visit.
